I had the rare opportunity to co-create a one-of-a-kind Cirque du Soleil show in Honolulu, Hawai‘i; ‘Auana. From the earliest concept stages through to production design, branding, and marketing, I helped shape every aspect of the show’s creation.
‘Auana invites audiences into a dreamlike world where Hawaiian myths and legends come to life through music, dance, comedy, and gravity-defying acrobatics. It’s a surreal celebration of Hawai‘i’s rich cultural heritage told with the inventive storytelling and visual magic only Cirque du Soleil can deliver.
I worked hand-in-hand with local cultural advisors to ensure every detail of the show was rooted in authenticity, not just inspired by Hawaiian culture, but built on it. Research informed everything: from narrative and costume design to set aesthetics and brand visuals. The choreography, grounded in traditional Hula - modernised for a contemporary audience, informed our approach to branding: a fusion of heritage and innovation.
